Shuttle bus project in Hof

Since 2021, six highly automated minibuses have been operating on public roads in the Upper Franconian towns of Hof, Kronach and Rehau as part of SMO. The second project phase has been running since the beginning of 2022, with operations in Rehau coming to an end and Bad Steben reopening. The aim is to work on important research questions for driverless local public transport by establishing shuttle operations in local public transport. After all, the mobility sector is facing major challenges to achieve the CO2 reduction targets. The combination of digital innovations and locally emission-free drives is becoming increasingly important. The new technologies also have the potential to strengthen public transport beyond the big cities and make it more efficient, flexible and optimally adapted to the needs of users. In rural regions in particular, securing a demand-oriented, climate-friendly and economical public transport service in the long term poses a particular challenge in view of demographic developments. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV). You can find detailed information at: https: //www.shuttle-modellregion-oberfranken.de/
